Restore by the Shore

A calm oasis at the edge of Cornwall, where those in Christian ministry and service can feel rested and restored.

For those in Christian ministry and service. If you work or volunteer for a Christian organisation or charity, including the church, and need a welcome break, this space in Cornwall has been created with you in mind.

We Know the Cost of Christian Service

Restore By The Shore is the vision of Kate Poole, supported by her husband Gavin. They are a Christian couple living above a hidden gem of a garden flat in Penzance, Cornwall. They have seen dear friends, vicars, youth workers, clergy, and charity staff, give so much of themselves in service to Jesus. They have also seen the benefits of time away in a peaceful and calm setting. Restore By The Shore offers a place of rest and renewal to those serving the Christian faith.

Kate, host of Restore By The Shore

Kate cares deeply about helping those who spend their lives caring for everyone else. Sometimes the church asks a great deal of its most faithful servants, and those same people do not always receive the rest or support they need in return. Opening this space feels like one small way to share the blessing she has been given. Kate will be around to offer support if you need it, but she equally values and respects your need for quiet and space.

This Place Is for You If...

You are working or volunteering for a Christian organisation or registered charity and you need space, time, peace and beauty to replenish and restore. To ensure this space remains available for those in ministry service, we do ask for evidence of your role during our initial chat.

Our Faith and Our Mission

Our hope is to offer a safe, welcoming and peaceful space where those who have given so much in service to others can come and simply be for a while. We also recognise that cost can be a barrier to taking time away, so we aim to keep each stay affordable.

A Real Home

The flat is private, self-catered, clean, and comfortable, but it is also part of our home. We live directly above the flat, so while we are in a quiet residential area, you may occasionally hear the sound of footsteps from overhead.

Limited Accessibility

The lower-level garden flat is all on one level once inside, with just a small step into the living area. However, access is via a flight of steep and narrow old stone steps.

Narrow stone steps leading down to the garden flat

Unfortunately, this means we are currently unable to accommodate guests with mobility difficulties, and we are sorry for this limitation.

Getting to Us

We are close to Penzance train station, and travelling by train is often the easiest way to reach us. We warmly encourage guests to arrive by public transport where possible, and we are happy to offer a complimentary pick-up from the train or bus station by prior arrangement. There is no on-site parking, but there is unrestricted parking on nearby streets.

Self-Catered and Simply Peaceful

This two-bedroom, self-catered garden flat offers a peaceful place for rest and reflection. Occupying the lower level of our home, the space is entirely your own and you will have full privacy to enjoy your stay. We are a five minute walk to Penzance train and bus station, and seven minute walk to town.

We believe cost should not be a barrier to those in Christian Service, which is why we approach pricing as a personal conversation.

Partners and up to two children are welcome. The flat has one double bedroom and one twin room, making it suitable for a family of four.

There is no television here, and we think that can be a gift. Bring your own devices if needed, and enjoy books and games during your stay.

We make sure the basics are there waiting for you on arrival. All other food is self-catered, and there are local shops and restaurants nearby.

There is a lovely enclosed garden at the front of the property for you to sit in and enjoy the sea view.

One well-behaved dog is welcome with prior notice. To keep the garden a clean and peaceful space for everyone, please supervise your dog at all times and pick up after them.

He restores my soul"
